Pen/Ink/Highlighter Review

This post is going to be about my opinion on a select few pens, highlighters, and ink pads on the regular Filofax paper that comes in the planner when you purchase it.

The pens I have tested include:
Le Pen

Bic Fashion Pen

Sharpie Fine Point Pen

Frixion 0.7

Hi Tecpoint V7 Grip (Blue)
    Papermate
The highlighters I tested include:
Papermate intro

Sharpie Accent (Smear Guard)

The ink pads I tested include:
Color Box pigment ink
  • I do not have a photo of the other ink but it is a craftsmart dye ink pad in black.

When I used these on the Filofax paper this is what they looked like:

All pens wrote nicely on the paper. They all write smooth and the tips do not catch on the Filofax paper.

The highlighters all highlighted smoothly and the color showed up well, however it is very noticeable where you start and stop because the paper holds the ink.

For the ink pads, both stamped evenly, and true to color. I did not have to touch up any spots where the ink missed.

When you flip the paper over this is what you see:

Looking at the back of the paper the Le Pen bleeds through the worst, followed by the sharpie and Hi Tecpoint V7 grip pens. The Papermate, Frixion, and Bic fashion pens do not bleed through the paper.

As for the highlighters, all bleed through the paper and the start/stop points are extremely noticeable.

The Craftsmart ink pad bleeds through the paper really bad, while the Colorbox pigment ink pad only shows a shadow that is hardly noticeable.
If I were to recommend pens, and highlighters for the Filofax I would suggest this:
  • If you do not color code the Papermate pen is wonderful. However, if you would like to color code the Bic fashion pen is excellent (has limited color choice) or the Frixion pens (erasable and have a wide variety  of colors).
  • If you want to highlight I would not recommend highlighters but you could use the transparent page flags.

Personal Domino Setup Update!

Hey Everyone!

I know it has been a week or less since my last Filofax setup video!! But like I said then it will probably change many times! The changes I made are not huge changes but there are enough of them to make a new post about! Hope you enjoy!!

First, I added a "charm" to it.. its an old braided bookmark that was lying around my house. I thought the colors went perfectly with the color of my Filofax!!

The next change I made was to the monthly calendars! I had the vertical month on two pages and really didn't like them so I ordered new ones! They finally showed up yesterday!

Next, I thought I would show how I have decorated a little further into my weekly diary!

In both of these photos I have used recollections washi tape from Michaels! Sometimes I also add stamps but I want to get a new ink pad because the one I have right now bleeds through the page too much!

The biggest change that I have made with my Domino is the notes section! Last time I had this section organized by the A-Z dividers. I found I did not overly like that method it made it hard to find things sometimes when I could remember what I titled the note. For example, my degree plan for school I could never remember if it was under B for business or D for degree.

To solve my problem I made sections and put sticky tabs at the top of them to mark them! This way I can file my notes by category rather than name.

My first section under notes is University. Here I keep things such as:
  • Grades
  • My degree plan
  • Professor information
  • Class information
  • Important school information
  • Schedules

Following this section I have a section called wish lists. In this section I keep things such as:
  • Shopping lists
  • Reading list
  • Filofax wish list
Next I have a tab for goals. I think that category is self explanatory :)

This is a Goal planning page that I printed and cut to size from www.theprojectgirl,.com
Following Goals is my inspirations category. In here I keep:
  • Quotes that inspire me
  • Magazine clippings
  • Articles

This is an example of an inspirational list that I found

Next I have Miscellaneous. This is where I keep anything that does not fall into my other categories! So I have a list of good websites, a page with a piece of each washi tape I own (to keep track),  random sticky notes that I no longer need in the front of my planner also get stored in this tab.

Following that I have a tab for my blog and a tab for my YouTube channel! This is where I keep lists of requests or ideas. I also keep the questions for tag that I may do or make notes of what I want to talk about.

That is all the changes I made to my Filofax as of now. If you have any suggestions, questions, or comments please leave them!

Filofax Tag

Hey Everyone!

This post is going to be a tag that I saw on Samluvely's YouTube channel. If you love Filofax you should answer the questions in the comments section!! I'd love to hear what you guys think!

Lets get started:

  1. How many Filofaxes do you own?
    • I currently own one. I have a personal Domino. I use to own a pocket Chameleon but I found it too small so I gave it to my mom.
  2. Which size and style is your favorite?
    • My favorite size is personal because it is not too small and not to big. There is tons of room to write everything I need while being small enough to carry in my handbag. My favorite style is the Domino because I much prefer it to have the elastic closure rather then the snap closure.
  3. How did you get into Filofaxing?
    • I was looking for videos on college organization and in one video the girl had a Filofax. After seeing that I started searching Filofax videos and fell in Love!
  4. Are you addicted to using, buying, blogging/volgging everything Filofax?
    •  Yes! I can not live without my Lola (my personal Domino's name if you haven't read my other posts!).
  5. Have you ever regretted any thing about your Filofax purchases?
    • Yes! When I bought my Domino, the store I bought it in only had the vertical month on two page calendar for the personal size. I ended up buying those instead of waiting and ordering the grid view. The vertical view was a waste of money!
  6. Which Filofax could you not live without?
    • Personal size Domino!
  7. How many Filofaxes do you use at once?
    • Just one. I could not function trying to balance two or more!! I need to have everything in one place!!
  8. What is your Filofax style? (plain or decorated)?
    • Definitely decorated!! I have to decorate my pages with washi tape!! Not so worried about having stamps and stickers but I need my washi tape haha!
  9. What Filofax are you saving up for?
    • I'm not actually saving for another one at the moment I am in love with the one I have. However if I was to get another I would either save for another Domino in a different color or a malden (personal size).
  10. If Filofax didn't exist what would you use to plan/organize your life?
    • I would either still be miserable with a normal planner that you can buy at a stationary store or something like Day-timer, Day-runner, Franklin Covey.... But I can't imagine not owning a Filofax!
Hope you all liked this tag! Please answer the questions in the comments and let me know what your answers are! :)

Personal Domino Setup

I'm back again with another post!! This time I am going to show you my Personal Domino's set-up! I feel like it has changed too many times in three weeks haha--I'm just never satisfied!!

Before I jump in to this and start showing you photos of my lovely Lola, I should tell you that my month on two page view is going to change because I am waiting on the month on two page with the boxes because I hate the month view I have now!!

This is the month on two pages  I am waiting on.

This is the month on two pages that I have!

I will do a post on the new stuff that comes in the mail if it ever arrives!! I have ordered some stickers from eBay, and a few things from Filofax.

Anyway enough of me rambling lets get started!! :

Meet Lola. Isn't she gorgeous!! I love her. She is personal size and bright orange!

When you first open Lola there are four normally sized card slots and then a bigger slot. Behind these card slots is a pocket. I keep, random business cards, my student ID, and some sticky notes in the card slots. In the over sized card slot I keep magnetic clips from Chapters bookstore. In the large pocket behind I don't store anything at the moment (although this may change).

This is the front inside cover of my Filofax!

Next to this is my flyleaf with my "table of contents" behind it. I made the table of contents from a piece of scrapbook paper. I use this to keep track of what the dividers hold, and what each pen color means (because I haven't been using Lola for very long... and my memory sucks haha).

My daily diary pages are my favorite part of my planner. I use stamps, and washi tape to decorate them (an idea I got from MyPurplelyLife on YouTube! Check her out if you like the way it looks!). All of the materials I got to decorate these pages are from Michaels!

Another organization method I like to use is expense and coupon envelopes. I use the expense envelopes to hold receipts so I can track how much I am spending and if I need to return something I can easily find my receipt. I started using a coupon envelope because Michaels always has coupons so I save them there!! I found these printable's on a blog called mylifeallinoneplace.blogspot.com. Check it out for some awesome inserts!!

And the last important part of my set up is my notes I use the A-Z dividers to alphabetize them. It works really well!!! I find it makes things much easier to find.

Finally I should mention my pen. I use the bic four color fashion pen...

The way I use this is I gave each color a meaning. But remember I change the light green ink to a dark blue. Anyway I write things in their corresponding color and if I need to make something such as an exam stand out I place a specific color Avery dot next to it.

Hope you all enjoyed this post. If you have any questions, or blog suggestions please comment below. Also check out my new YouTube channel for more filofax and organization videos!!  My channel is linked in my profile!

Personal Domino!!

I has been a while since I posted. This is because I decided not to use my pocket chameleon because when I got it I thought it was too small. However, since then I have bought myself an Orange Domino in personal size… and I have fallen in Love!

Orange Personal Domino

I have had her just over two weeks and have played around with different set ups. I think for now I have found the right one. I have also become addicted to decorating and personalizing it as well… thanks to nadinetx and mypurplelylife on YouTube!! Love them!!

So something I noticed on both YouTube and the blogs I read is that most people name their Filofax. So I figured I will to. After thinking long and hard the only name that seemed to stick was Lola… so that is what I went with.

I have to say if you are thinking about buying a Filofax and the Domino is on your mind, but your unsure, I would say go for it. I don't think the Domino will disappoint!

I know this blog was short, and kind of boring, but I promise I will do a post about my set up next!!
